NEED TO EXPAND THE PREAMPS OF A MOTU 828

I was wondering if you can hook up a M-Audio Octane to it to get a full 8 preamps on my interface for recording drums.

Has anyone tried anything like this? Does anyone recommend using a different AD Converter that wont be overkill since the motu can only do 24bit 48khz sampling rates. Older models would also be greatly appreciated. I'm not to picky. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
