This has to be one of the sickest gear collections of all time. And I know that it's not all listed either. There's more. If you were to take everyone on this board and add up all the gear, it wouldn't even come close to the stuff Jon has. He is the world's greatest gear slut. Over 250 vintage tube mics. I think he has one of the only Elam 270's in the world.

i love that studio. it is like a candy store.
they have a big rental service, too.
john (the owner) let us in the big mic locker and poke around. i found all kinds of stuff i had only read about before.. old rca skunk mic ribbons, all those 47s, 150's, 67's, a drawer full of sanken's, on and on. then the outboard rental room, with floor to ceiling racks... ridiculously awesome.
not to mention upstairs is the korby audio offices and mic manufacturing plant.
what an amazing place.

Yeah, it looks amazing. I've never been there. My old studio partner grew up with John. I got to meet him last summer when he came thru town. Very nice guy. Great stories. Have you seen pictures of the new Massenburg designed mix room? THAT is fucking crazy!

I have a bunch of shots that I took at Crane Song (& Inland Sea Recording) linked from my
PHOTO PAGE... Not really "slutty" pics, but there's some cool shots to drool over. Lots and lots of green knobs...

Elliott Smith's New Monkey is open now and they've got a hell of a gear list..including one of 13 1970's Trident A-range mixing desk. I guess these were made in London with George Martin's guidance. The previous owner was Rush.

old api consoles are real cool and all but I think a lot of folks would be suprised at how poor the construction is on some old ones. I know I was really shocked when I first saw one in person. They sound good of course but really made on the cheap where possible.
I finished building this mixer recently which Im incredibly proud of, its 8x2 with input channels based on the api 312 circuit, passive summing with makeup amps based on the 325 circuit.
Not sure if that qualifies as porn or not but...

Dave, is there something you DON'T do/build?
you gonna start taking orders or something? tapeop cupons...50% off...
there's this guy on this other board i attend, that claimed he took a peak at Jensen's audio page, downloaded a couple of pres's schematics and built 2 or 3 of the best (his claim) pres he ever heard (i think he owned quite a few of the "reputable ones") and cost him something like 20 bucks..then the fella from great river (i think it was) or A designs or whatever steps in saying those pres are indeed very very good, but not commercially appealing so no one manufactures the things...
makes you think...i wish i had taken that electro tech 1 week course a bit more seriously

seen pictures? ha! i was there on opening day. i got to hear queen's night at the opera in 5.1 in that room.
honestly i have to say, it is the BEST sounding 5.1 room i've ever heard. it has this fullness and openness to everything, and you can BE OUTSIDE OF THE ARRAY and still feel the localization. it is absolutely amazing. and massenburg basically designed it all... crazy.

Any piece of gear made by Shadow Hills. Man his stuff looks fantastic, and by all accounts, sounds as good as it looks.
