Ha! Not really a studio, more like a jam space with a bunch of recording gear in it, but it does get a bit cold in there. So, the Sta Level is good for vocals and bass. Anything else it shines on? The only comps I have right now is a 2-1176 and a single Distressor.
I know enough to know that I don't know what I am doing.

The sta level is great for:

The whole mix.Bass. Vocals. Piano. Strings. Acoustic guitar. AC bass. Rhodes. Wurli. Tuba. Trumpet. Saxophone. Hammond/leslie.

Remember that "being good on vocals" is a HUGE statement, as it infers a versatility that works with the most individual element we come across. An Acoustic bass will make a noise that operates within a pretty finite set of parameters that dont deviate completely from session to session: a vocal WILL.

Just my opinion, again.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully the guy will get back to me soon. He said it is in very nice original condition, and I know it is a bitch to find 6386 tubes so if luck is on my side they will be pretty fresh. I hope. I hassled you before about some 2ch tube comp options like the NY2A ect, but this is more in my price range and seems to be a real vibe piece. I can always get an LA3A any old time. I will keep you posted and hope the deal works out.

Joel, here is an update. The Sta-Level is an early model and was refurbished by a tech and it has been modified with rotary attenuators like on the SA-39. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. There is new tube sockets and it has the original square transformers. He is going to e-mail me a pic tomorrow.

I saw a pic and the thing is minty fresh. It looks exactly like the pic of your Sta Levels Joel, except it is a lighter grey colour. I assume I will have to make some pigtails up for the beast. I have never seen the back of it.
