Shipping gear

Im moving across Canada and need to ship some gear and personal stuff. I dont have much stuff, so it might be overkill to call a moving company. Anyone have any ideas how to do it safely on the cheap?

If you're driving, put it in the trunk of your car... if you're flying, pack it up in boxes and mail it to your new address. The US Post Office is the least expensive way to send stuff to Canada... the bitch of the beast is that unless you send it "international express" you can't get a tracking number.

If you send it regular parcel post "insured" you won't be able to file a claim on it until it's been missing for like 30 days.

FedEx and UPS are about the same for shipping stuff to Canada... though I think I've heard that FedEx is a bit gentler on the import tariff thing [and more hard ass on the "dimensional weight" thing.
