RIP Tascam Forums

Post by ;ivlunsdystf » Wed Nov 23, 2005 8:05 pm

Anybody who has a Tascam 2488 probably already knows about tascamforums.com as the place to find out how to REALLY use the various 2488 features (the manual is, at best, a quickstart; multiple major 2488 features are not even mentioned in the manual)

Unfortunately, the 2488 forum and all the other forums bit the dust today with (apparently) nary a whimper from the Teac/Tascam higher-ups. This is a major pity for those of us who use the more recent Tascam products and lean on those forums for support

Go see for yourself at www.tascamforums.com - The dude in charge lists a few email addresses so we can harass/badger the Tascam corporate lackeys about their need for a forum like this

yeah,
i got the notice from the board as well.
i was on that quite a bit for my analog gear -- 388 and 80-8 recorders.
hard to believe that tascam didn't take the reins on this one; they really dropped the ball.
it could have been a great way for a company to reach the people who already committed to their products -- but noooooooooooooooo

I've been disapointed with Tascam since they dropped the original forum. Seems to me customer support is as important as quality products!

I don't really get this part of drwho's last message:
After more than
$25,000 in one time start up development costs with labor,
and approximately $2500 per month every month in time, effort and bandwidth expenses, I am being crushed.
Those costs are ridiculous, and can't possibly be anywhere near accurate. Tascam forums used Invision Power Board.

I own and run some fairly busy forums, and the monthly costs are in the low hundreds of dollars - not thousands. And start-up costs were something like $60.

Maybe he charges himself $500/hour for labor.

I got the same notification and had the same thoughts about the costs (???!!!).

However, that's not the point. Tascam seems to be getting out of the customer support game one bit at a time. I know that forum wasn't official, but it was the last comprehensive Tascam forum around. I've pretty much decided based on their lack of support for their customers and products (the MX2424 in particular) that I'm done with them. Unless they step up and change their ways, no more Tascam products for me.

This post will also be sent to those various emails he provided.

I'm severely disappointed in that company. My next big purchase will be with (gulp) Digidesign. I think we all know what that means...

i just got this email

````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
I would like to thank each and every one of you for taking the time
to read our
last email
and for the gallant effort you made voicing your opinions to Tascam on the
forums behalf.
Well it looks like we received our answer from Tascam on Monday Nov 28th.
NO financial support forth coming! Black Monday for sure.
Am I angry? No. Dissappointed? Yes. Will I stop using Tascam equipment
altogether? No.
And you probably shouldn't either....
Remember Rule #1
"NO manufacturer or reseller bashing" This philosophy makes our forum special.
By sticking to our guns here, visitors can
tell we're a "pro" group of audio equipment users.
The bottom line is this:
We have sweated and slaved to establish this wonderful community of Tascam
users. There's no stopping us now!
And I've read every email each one of you have sent to me and to
Tascam. To the
best of my knowledge I have responded to each
and every one of you. If I missed you, I apologize.
Now you ask, where do we go from here?
Thousands of you have voiced your support for our forum and have in
fact offered
to support tascamforums.com financially.
Thats great. Now is the time to show your support through a financial
contribution. I had thought about making the forum a
"subscription only" based site, but that defeats the whole purpose of the free
exchange of audio/sound ideas and solutions.
Wouldn't you agree?
I'm more than happy to keep the forum going with your help. But only
"with your
help"
You must realize I can not bear the all of the costs and time involved by
myself. This MUST be a group effort.
I thought we could set it up like this:
For a donation of $15 dollars per year you become a "Donating Member"
For a donation of $30 dollars per year you become a "Silver Member"
For a donating of $50 dollars per year you become a "Gold Member"
For a donation of $100 dollars per year or more you become a "Platinum Member"
Donations can be made to: "donations@tascamforums.com" through your PayPal
account.
If you would prefer NOT to use PayPal, you may send in a check or money order
and make payable to:
Bruce Heidorn
700 N. Colorado Blvd
#356
Denver, Co 80206
Please remember to include your user name when making your donation.
Lets get tascamforums.com backup and online no later than Dec 14th
And hopefully alot sooner than that!
Thanks for your support everyone!
Bruce in Denver
