on bass - Big Muff (Black Russian one)
on guitar - Prescription Yardbox.
*either one will work great for either instrument.

Fuzz probe.
Custom triple muff freakout box by an Electro harmonix designer.
Both totally freak out, but can be set for more "reasonable" mayhem...

How does one go about attaining a pedal like that?

How does one go about attaining a pedal like that?
obviously, by befriending an electro harmonix designer.

Yep.
Or make one yourself out of multiple pedals and spare parts and an old memory man box....

so joel, have you tried the double muff? does it work for someone who doesn't know an EH designer, and can't wield a soldering iron?

I've tried the double muff, and it's not close to a big muff. More of a decent overdrive pedal than an over the top fuzz.
