Totally obscure question about an SSL 4000

Post by MechaGodzilla » Fri Dec 02, 2005 4:52 pm

So I'm trying to move the floppy drive from our SSL 4000 from the power supply racks into the control room, about 10 feet away. I called SSL, and the interface is a 50-pin SASI connection - the precursor to SCSI-1 - but they didn't know how far the cable would go.
I looked up the specs for SCSI, and it says I could make up to an 18-foot cable run without problems, but I can't find anything on SASI. The connector is the same as a SCSI cable, though.
Any thoughts? We have to move a couch to get to the machine room every time we want to change disks; it sucks.

The studio I work for has all of the floppy drives for our G series in the control rooms, while the computers are in a closet about 10 feet away as well. We're running ribbon cable under the floor and through the wall. No problems with it here.
