Anyone change the tubes in the UA LA-610 or 610 preamp?

I swapped out the 12AX7's with GE NOS's. They helped a LOT.
Re-capping that thing (the 2-610) with nice modern caps would probably get you some more "snap" as well. That thing feels slow to me....
I love it as a line amp for that very reason.

Capacitors. This seems to be one of the things that UA could have made better.
Talk to an actual tech about it, not me. I just know that the thing could be a little more rigid, and less mushy with better caps in there. I am an end user, not a tech.

I put a Groove Tubes 12ax7a in my M610 preamp and it made a HUGE difference.
Much brighter, much clearer, and just more detailed.

Bigger difference with just that tube than I have heard between different pieces
of gear...

But I bet Joel's right about the caps. I have been wondering if you could mod
the 610 to make it better, I'm glad I saw this thread. Not that I can do it yet,
but hey.... it could be done.

this like the emperor's new clothes. UA has such a unquestioned mojo goin on. Well lets question it !!! my 610 sounds a little moooshy lately too[. I often wondered does this thing need some new tubes?
