A 57 a 421 and some love...and a micro limiter.

Yep.
Everything was micro limited except the guitar.
The 421 was two feet in front of the kick and the 57 was about 3 feet above the center of the snare. Both mics were bussed to one track (mono) and compressed together. My 388 had a non-functioning track 8. We always used the stereo version of Glyn Johns technique if we had enough tracks.
I learned this from Jack Puig who was Glyn's assistant in the 80's.
The drums were pieces of crap that a neighbor gave to my brother for free. They were CB700 and Ruether (sp?) mixed up.

I remember just about every stupid detail of every recording I've been involved with over the years for some strange reason.
This was around 91 or 92 probably.

I think (some of?) Kelley Stoltz stuff was also done on a 388

Two songs by me and two songs by my wife. Kinda folky rocky ish. Or something. I've had the 388 since it was new, but only began getting anything remotely decent out of it since discovering the Tapeop universe. Took a workshop with Larry Crane once too. It was awesome. The machine's had one major tune-up, about a year ago and it just keeps working. Built like a tank. And almost as heavy. On these songs I think I used a 58, a 421, an ancient midiverb and a similar vintage Audio Logic MT66 compressor that only works after being on for about six hours. Also tracked some Reason stuff off the computer. Check it out.

I just got a 388 not to long ago. Here is a rough mix of a song I am working on. I won't finish it until after the holidays.

The bango part is just a scratch take and I need to do something about the lap steel at about 3:38. And I want to bring up the synths at certain points also.

Even though this song has banjo and lap steel it is not a country song.

I am using 456 but I guess you are supposed to use 457. I bought the tape before I knew that. The 457 is a little easier on the moving parts. Thinner tape...a little more slack. 456 and 457 are the same formula. Once I use up the 456 I'm gonna get 457.
