M-Powered unpowered

Post by andyg666 » Tue Jan 03, 2006 3:13 pm

just got m-powered installed.

i can record tracks, i can play back multiple tracks, but i can't record and play back at the same time. when i drop it into record, the input signal cuts. the sound card can hear the mic, but protools will not. recording is fine if i'm not playing back other tracks at the same time (and I just accidentally got this wicked cool acoustic sound) that i would really like to lay down some chords to some drums with.

here's my rig:
win xp sp2
fast computer, bunch of ram

protools LE 6.7
m-audio delta 2496, driver version 5.10.00.0051 (made for m-powered)

like i said--the sound card is getting the signal, but PT isn't. so i don't think it's a hardware setting. i looked over the basic stuff in PT (i/o settings, hardware settings, etc.) and i didn't find anything obvious.

anyone have any clues?

Sounds like a PT or a hardware issue. Open up the m-audio icon down by the taskbar and see if you're monitoring sound to that point. If not, then it's a pro tools thing. I'd give 'em a call. It's really hard to troubleshoot not-very-obvious computer problems without being in front of the the computer. Or, try the digidesign forum. wealth of information.

This may have been a typo on your part, but are you using protools LE or protools m-powered? LE will only work with mbox, mbox2, 002, and 002r. But you said it is half working, so that probably is not the issue now that I think about it. Are the drivers the latest ones?

it could be PT spazzing out because of a buffer issue or something similar.

at irregular intervals, this happens to me with LE and Mbox2.

I'm sure you've checked this, but it sounds like you aren't using full-duplex drivers. Have you gone into your control panel and choosed the appropriate drivers? If that isn't it, you might have to change the buffer size up to 512 or 1024 or whatever.

How's your I/O setup looking?

By chance, have you tried the "input only monitor". "Option" + "K" is the quick key on a mac. Not sure what it is on a PC. It can also be found under one of the pull down menus.
