Hi there,
Anyone know if you can open pro tools sessions in Digital Performer?
I can't seem to find it in the pro tools support section at Motu...

even though it was more or less said. i'll just lay send it home.
i have DP, and friend has PT. you *can not* open a PT session in DP. "."
you can use digitranslator to make an OMF file out of your PT session, that will open in anything that can open OMFs.. [including DP]. and yes, it is like 500$.
sux.. hmm.. why do i use DP again? oh yes right..

I assumed there would be an easy way out and in from PT and tracked some stuff, and only discovered that wonderful $500 "feature" after looking it up. Thankfully I hadn't mixed anything, so I just copied the files and read the timecodes in DP. Gotta love proprietary formats.
You can get AAF files out from DP, but not into PT without the DigiTranslator.

Yeah, if all you did was track, then you should be able to export the files and import them into any software.
I have to do this from time to time for folks. Even if I've done some overdubs, edits, fades, etc. The simple solution is to "render from 0:00:00" meaning that you select the whole session, every track from 0:00 through the last piece you want to move. Then have the software render or "consolidate" all of the tracks into single files so your vocal composite becomes one single .wav or .aiff file. In the end you get 16, 24, or however many individual files that can be pulled into any software (depending on sample rate) and just snugged up to the start of the track.
What you lose, of course, is the ability to change any of the pre-existing edits. You can create new edits, but everything you commited to before the 'export' is done.
If it's a one-time move, then that's no big deal. But if you'll be moving back and forth, then you really just need the same software.

The command in PT is "consolidate". Just select the range (highlight) and then choose consolidate. You can then chop off the first part of the all the files to a common point so they'll be easy to line up when imported to a new program. You then want to go to the regions list menu in the edit screen, highlight the tracks you want to export, and use the "export selected as files" command. You can then pick the format you want them exported as (.wav, .aiff, etc).
