Hi all,

Newcomer to the board here. Cool place!

Little about myself: I've been recording for about 25 years and have a small project studio, recording mainly original instrumental music and songs. Some professional work, and lots more to come. Primarily into film/ambient, alt-country, bluegrass, and instrumental acoustic music right now. I play various instruments, mainly guitar, drums and keys. Lots of live/performance experience.

I'm interested in a higher-level Joemeek pre such as the TwinQ, and was hoping you guys could give me some impressions based on your use. I'm looking for a dual-channel all-in-one unit with sound and character, and that is under a grand. The TwinQ seems to fit the bill from a few reviews I've read.

I've been using ART Tube Channels and have gotten good results with them for what they are. They lack a lot of character, but they fit my budget at the time, and seemed like good quality. Haven't let me down at all.

To boil it down, is the $700-range Joemeek stuff unique? Does it improve on the less-expensive units? How would it stack up to, say, the Focusrite TrakPak (or whatever that thing is called)? Can't afford UA-level stuff right now.

i dont know about the twinQ thingy, but for a $100 or so more you can get a sytek that has four channels two with burr browns for different flavor(s)...

they're the only pre's I own, other than my board ( '80s soundtracs), but I'm totally tickled by their performance....

The new twinQ also has Burr Brown mic amps, and has custom wound transformers on each channel that are switchable in or out. They add another whole new dimension to the Burr Brown sound.

While it is not 4 channels, it has some very nice EQ and two really flexible compressors, and AES/EBU, SPDIF, and optical digital outputs.

It would not be proper for me to compare our products with others but there are a lot of good reviews on the twinQ out there. Like anything else, all gear is subjective to the users ears. What one likes, another does not.

Just remember when asking opinions on any BBS, that is what you will get...opinions. Those opinions, even mine do not necessarily mean you will be happy with what you get.

It is always a good idea to buy from a reputable dealer who will allow you to exchange a product within a specific time period in case you don't like it. It never matters what anyone else likes by the way...all that matters is what you like.

Alan! You sniffed out another thread about JoeMeek products! Welcome back! Let me ask you: Is the ThreeQ more like a 1963 Corvette or is it closer to a 1984 Corvette? Just curious...

I have a question for the PMI/joemeek guy, how would you compare a joemeek threeQ to a grace design model 101? I am just curious because I have the joemeek but want to get the grace design 101. Thanks for any info. Does the pre-amps on the twinQ differ from the threeQ much? I was thinking about selling my threeq for a twinQ. Thanks!

I've looked at all the old Meek-controversy threads. It's been done.

I'm just interested in opinions on the TwinQ from USERS, so back to it.

In fairness to Alan, his post wasn't necessarily trying to sway anybody one way or the other. It just stated a few facts about the twinQ, and then suggested that the original poster try out a few products from a reputable dealer and exchange the ones he didn't like. I don't view that as being PMI propaganda.

Getting back on topic: if I was handed $700 today and was forced to spend it on preamps, I'd probably pick up five or six of the EHX 12AY7 preamps. I'm crazy like that, though.

Your pretty touchy. I am not selling anything here. I answered a question with my opinions. If that is too much for you then ban me or get over it. Why don't you let your attitude go and if others here want to ask questions then let them.

Show me where I ask anyone here to buy any of my products?

You would think you would encourage manufacturers to be here. Shut the thread down if you wish, run off people who are trying to help. That is a great way for you to be moderator on a public forum.
