Toft Pilot Program deadline
So Toft and PMI are having a pilot program for the new ATB consoles (deadline is February 1st, 2006 -- shipped around April 1st, 2006)
If I was in the position to do it, I would. I don't know if they have all the people they're requesting yet but at least you can see what they're selling for (initially).

Otherwise it looks like they won't be available until after the pilot program has ended and then some (if there's any kind of redesign/tweaking based on initial feedback). So probably not 'til later this fall for a full production or sooner if things go smoothly?
Very exciting.

The only thing about those things that bothers me is that they aren't modular. I just had my Topaz worked on and not only is it more expensive because they have to practically take the board apart to work on it but also, your entire board is at the shop.
I know this keeps production costs down but lets hope it also means that they don't expect any problems.
They look really nice, hopefully they'll sound as good.
I'll wait til you get one first though Adam.

Eddie it is modular, just not in the sense of your Topaz.
Inside the board are individual boards bolted in banks of 8, all through
hole, no SMD, for easy servicing. Once you get inside the board you should
be able to take the channels out that need work, box up and carry on working
as per normal bar the missing channels.
This is unlike most modern ?budget? desks where there is one BIG PCB with a
zillion SMD?s all over it and the whole desk is out of commission while in
for repairs.
This is a major selling point maybe buyer will not consider until something
goes wrong.
Cheers

I see, from the pic it looks like the same design as most of the budget stuff out there. That makes a lot of sense. Stilll, I'll wait until Adam gets one first.matta wrote:Eddie it is modular, just not in the sense of your Topaz.

Topaz
Eddie is being gracious. He changed over his Topaz from -10 to +4 and it does sound good. His has the small 2-piece power supply and is really quiet. All I did was provide a manual and a cheering section. I need to get my Topaz cleaned up and fix the dead panpot that's been bugging me.Yep, i really like my Topaz, just had it repaired and modded (thank EH) it's sounding great.
The Toft is intriguing though, but I too will wait until they "officially" are for sale.
