Should I wait for the New ProTools LE...?

Post by Double Tones » Mon Jan 16, 2006 11:46 pm

I've read in a few threads online about a new ProTools LE interface.
I was pretty set on getting an 002 Rack and probably command 8, but is there something coming out soon that I should hold out for?

Thanks!

Where'd you hear the rumors about a new interface?

You should take a look at the Project Mix I/O . IMO, it's a better deal than the 002/command 8 combo.

As far as the "003" is concerned though, I would think that if there ever is going to be such an interface we would see it relatively soon and personally I would avoid the 002.

Thanks, but I'd much rather have ProTools for numerous reasons.

You can use PT M-Powered with it.

Digi announced new software at NAMM (going on now) but no new boxes. 002 is getting pretty long in the tooth, so you'd think they would be bringing new things out pretty soon, but since they didn't do it at NAMM I'd think we are at least 3-6 months out on any new hardware, maybe longer, so don't wait. Go for it.

Mbox 2 just came out. I haven't heard anything about a newer Le box than that.

I've also heard rumors about a box to replace the 002, and although that would be great, I haven't seen any proof. I don't think Digi cares if it was ready for NAMM or not, and if it's real I wouldn't be surprised if it was released in a month or two.
That really sucks that you don't get the Projext Mix I/O with Pro Tools. You have to pay another $250 for the software. I really would expect a much better 002 box to be released now that M-Audio has been on board for so long.

As far as a 003 :

I have a very good buddy - WAY WAY UP in the Digi hardware development dept ( he's one of the MAIN developers ) and he assured me there was no replacement for the 002R coming anytime SOON ( like at LEAST a year away ).. So , on his advice, I bought an 002R and a command 8

So I wouldnt hold your breath. He also denied that an LE / TDM hybrid is coming ( which was also talked about on the digi forum )

Cool I guess you've just proven that Digidesign blows.

Okay, well we now know this mystery box is the Mbox 2 Pro. Finally.

Gee... there's a lot of 002/Digi hate in this thread. It always surprises me. I think the 001 was fantastic (for what it was). The 002r is great (especially with the Musicians Toolbox) and i think personally that the ability to interface seemlessly with most studios anywhere for a couple of grand is a concept that's pretty incredible. Yet.. there so much 'Digi blows'.. 'the 002 sux'..

I don't get it.. it's just something to record to.

can you mentally hold out and wait?
if so, go for it. i am sure something new will come out at some point. though, then you might as well wait, cause something newer is bound to show up.
