48 tracks in PTLE & MP

Has anybody started a thread on this yet? If so I can't seem to find it.

Anyways 48 mono or stereo tracks are now available in PTLE & MP via the Music Production Toolkit ($495).

It's not quite clear how this all works exactly, but it's an interesting (and much overdue) development.

Yeah, seems pretty cool but not sure what to do. I'm currently running a G4 Powermac on OSX 10.3.x with PTLE 6.9. The upgrade comes with an upgrade to PTLE 7.1, but I'd have to upgrade my OS for that; and according to the digi specs my computer no longer meets the minimum requirements. Not sure how big a deal that is.

You mean busses? I believe there's no limit on how many aux tracks you can create. With the release of PTLE 7 digidesign upped the number of internal busses to 32 and as far as I know that isn't changing at all with this new 7.1 release. With the release of 7 they also upped the sends to 10 per track.

As far as I know you should be able to run OSX10.4 on a G4, though the results might be less than stellar.

Yeah, I think the OS will run ok but just not sure about PTLE 7.1. The compatibility docs say that they don't support certain "Quicksilver" models, which mine is. I've upgraded the CPU and the RAM, so not sure if it's really an issue. I sent an e-mail into tech support so we'll see if I hear back.

I think it's ridiculous and LE should have teh same track capabilities of Logic Express. Digidesign is the king of gouging.

I can't link to the page for some reason, but here's what it says:

Supported Power Mac G4 Computers

Dual G4 Processor Models

Dual 1 GHz Power Mac G4 MDD
Dual 1.25 GHz Power Mac G4 MDD
Dual 1.25 GHz Power Mac G4 FW800
Dual 1.42 GHz Power Mac G4 FW800
Single G4 Processor Models

1 GHz Power Mac G4 FW800
1.25 GHz Power Mac G4 MDD

Legend:
MDD = "Mirrored Drive Doors" models from 2002
FW800 = FireWire 800 models from 2003

Not Recommended

All models with processor speeds less than 1 GHz
All "Quicksilver" models from 2001-2002

You can get to it from the support/compatibility page, under Digi 002R/PT 7LE.

I have a feeling that what we call LE may end up being the "Express" of ProTools native. That and the M-Audio ProTools. I have a feeling that we are seeing the beginning of a much more robust ProTools native DAW which may soon have all the features of it's TDM big brother.

Good point, now that native processing power is getting closer to what DSP card processing used to be.

Yeah, now that I think about it some more, $500 bucks extra should get you 64 tracks, especially since their Mix Plus systems are officially EOL.
