Drum Workshop

Post by mrclean » Mon Jan 23, 2006 9:19 am

I'd recommend checking out the Drum Workshop models.

I have a 5000 series pedal that has lasted many tours and studio gigs.

They have nice reversable beaters for either hard plastic or felt attack.

Last time I was at one of those large-chain-music-retailers, I noticed they had easily 20 different pedals on display. You could sit down and try a few to see what feels right. If you're not a drummer, take a friend along who is.

I feel like everyone is a drummer..because of the whole heart thing..the molecules the constant motion of everything..I love to play drums its like my favorite thing in the world..been at it for a year or so now..

I've got a DW beater stick the felt/plastic and the DW "hardcore" thing..they both give cool differences in tone..At a store i really can't tell up from down if you know what I mean..I notice little things in the sound everytime I'm near the drumset..just in the petal..a squeak here a rattle there..I need something silent, durable, feels right..something that makes my kick sound the best it can..the way the thing hits is like everything..something really special..LOL..I sound like a freak..

I really like the DW 5000 as well. I've been putting moer focus on drumming lately and that's what my drummer has. I've played some other pedals and they did not do it for me.

drumming always puts me in a good mood....

and as to the massive amount of sounds on a drum kit..
it is incredible...the drums/cymbals seem like 2/3rds of the sound to me too..
all the creeks...weirdo rubbing..i'm in love with that...i kinda like a squeaky pedal..
my favourite is hitting the top of the kik instead of the hiHat...that's a very funky sound..

YEs! I'm going to have the squeakey one and the silent one for the option!

You really can get sucked in to the sound of a kit..I mean its so complex in timbre that the sound is almost incomprehensible in certain ways..

i've really been into a mic on the beater head of the kick lately..and man...
that thing will pick up some weird noises...
but suprisingly its usually limited to the drums...no squeaks from the gibralter pedal....

now that speed king....hrmph...that's a squeaker...same for the old yamaha pedal as well...

Squeaks and such...

Post by mrclean » Mon Jan 23, 2006 10:37 am

Squeaks and noise can be a problem from time to time, but I've never been too troubled by it and think a little noise is ok and not something to get overly worried about. A little 3-1 oil on the chain/gears/bearings helps.

They're called foot pedals, as in pedestrian or bipedal.

what about the 9000 series ?
They seem a bit overkill but a tad smoother than the 5000 .
But any thing is better than the jalopy Im playing

the part of my current petal that squeakes is the back (by the heel)..but there is no way to tighten it..I could try some oil..but I'm 100% certain I want a new one anyway and the one I have is sort of cursed..I think it might be a pirate curse or a mummy curse but its hard to tell..

did you offend any old crones?
they usually are the most trigger happy with the curses..
you should also consider you lack of faith....try cutting up a pidgeon, burning the blood...that usually takes care of my problems.

if you slack off on your sacrifices shit gets untenable...

and a little off topic but...

1. Ninjas are mammals.

2. Ninjas fight ALL the time.

3. The purpose of the ninja is to flip out and kill people.
