Swans - Filth

Most specifically the bass sound on this record. Totally crushing. Anyone have the inside scoop on what's going on with it? What a good record.

No idea, but I must profess my love for all things Michael Gira.

Angels of Light's "How I Loved You" is one of my favourite (and favourite-sounding) records ever.

<3 MG

one of the nicest people i have ever met. martin bisi and bryce goggin have been very informative to me about some of the Swans stuff. maybe try googling the engineers on the album or shoot MG a mail himself.

I guess I'll try and email Gira. His email is probably on the Young God site. Mark Berry engineered the Filth record and his site doesn't have his contact info as far as I can see.

That is al.
He sounds like that.
I just recorded him. I have a project with Norman. They make good noises.

Algis came on aroung Greed. Harry Crosby was the bassist on Filth. They had so many line up changes. It's probably an old Ampeg. Joel, if you don't mind me asking, what is your project with Norman called?

Thats right... duh... Al was later than Norman...

Anyway,

Norman is one of the many people in "the Book Of Knots."

Joel, I have to admit running across that name during one of my numerous searches through the depths of the TapeOP board and trying to dig up information on The Book of Knots.

... and ONLY Gira could make this album work. Most songs are two chords and too long for any other band to pull it off. This album is my favourite of his and one of my favourite, period.

Roli Mossiman played drums on that record and probably had some sort of impact on the sound.... he is an amazing engineer/producer. but i have no idea how much he was involved in that record, if it was anything other than drums/percussion...

Norm was one of THE coolest, nicest people I met during my tenure in NYC.
I love that guy...and what a guitar player. Sorry, that has nothing to do with the bass sound on Filth...carry on.l

i was just reading some old tapeops, and found a nice interview with michael gira in issue 53. it really is a great read, and will probably yield no answers on this question. the way he records is very interesting, and very unique each time it seems...

god luck! i will reread the article and see what it says if anything, even if its cryptic

thanks for whoever posted this thread. ive been jammin out to soundtracks for the blind and children of god, and wow, its been a while, and wow, awesome stuff...
time is money and im wasting both...
