A buddy of mine recently found one of the blackface Realistic 7-bands after a long search. He said he had read about it on here years ago, and had his eye out in pawn shops ever since. So he finally finds one (don't even ask me what he paid for it), brings it back to the studio, and hooks it up. Bummer... it works, but it's kind of noisy.

So, to clean it up, he sent it to a professional company that does mods. He is supposed to be getting it back soon... will keep y'alls posted.

i own a 31-1987 and can testify that it does add some nice warmth to tracks and beef. sounds great when used on bass.

how does the 10k band sound? haven't messed with the highs yet.

RefD already broke it down like this:

you're looking for the blackfaced (enamel-finished 70s) version which are a bit difficult to come by anymore.

they are from different decades and the guts/construction are wildly different.

By the way, my friend is getting his back from being modded this week. So sound clips, soon, I hope!

Nope, God I have seen. 16 pages of discussion, still nobody can produce a picture or model number of this EQ.

Nothing wrong with it if you are an atheist, of course! Just engaging in a little Socratic dialogue.

I believe the model number was identified as 31-1989. That sound right?

No, that doesn't sound right. I believe that is a silverface model.

fair enough, I guess! It's the 31-1989. :) If you find one, crack it open, switch out the ceramic caps in the signal path with poly caps (the two-bit green caps from mouser/digikey are fine) and take it for a test drive!
