where to buy tuchel->xlr cable or connector
Hey guys. Does anyone have a bead on where to buy a tuchel->xlr connector or cable (like on an old white 421)? I know you can make em, but I'm no good with an iron (yet). I searched around the board as best I could but couldn't find an answer...sorry if I missed it and this is redundant...

Thanks. I checked out that thread already, it didn't really have any specifics on where to find these parts...I've been searching the internet the last few days only to have a bunch of folks call me crazy for asking for what I thought would be a pretty easy thing to find. Anyways, I found this guy in Germany:
http://www.pdrefahl.de/mic/1_cab.html
It's gonna run me like $60 for the cable, or $40 for just the tuchel jack, which I would have to get cable/xlr and solder together. Next one I get is gonna be WITH tuchel cable!

Word. Thanks for the legwork! I had several converstations with people at Amphenol who assured me that they were not making these connectors anymore. They made fun of me for buying a 60s mic

you might be better off soldering a new XLR connector into the body of the mic itself. Vintage/obscure connectors are what really turns me off of buying oldschool mics.

I wouldn't worry about not being good with an iron. Wiring connectors is the best thing to do, because you can't really mess it up unless you wire it wrong or maybe get REALLY messy. When you buy the connector you need, buy a few male and female XLR connectors and some decent mic cable, and make a few mic cables first. Depending on what cable you get, the cables you make will probably end up being the best you have, and a better value than what you can buy, and you'll probably want to make your own in the future. In the meantime, you'll be ready to make the connector you need.
I've made a lot of cables, a crappy guitar pedal, modified my "TOMB" ribbons (putting the pigtail on that everyone didn't want ), and done the transformer mod on my octava ML52, and I'm still not very good with an iron. All my stuff still works great, though, and I have gotten better.

That is a Gross Tuchel connector. Get them on Ebay in Germany.dhaworth wrote:Hmm...yeah, but mine is the 3 flat-pin...don't think midi would fit...here's a pic:

They cost hardly anything - just look carefully. There are many goosenecks available which means you don't need a clip....
The silver Revox M3500 above is a Klein Tuchel. These are very common and cheap too - same as DIN (MIDI).
Don't pay lots for cables - they're a bloody rip off!
