Radial Pro DI vs. Radial JDI

Post by Echos Myron » Sun Feb 12, 2006 11:50 am

Has anyone compared these two DIs? Radial says that they use a "custom-made transformer that is fashioned around the Jensen transformer" in the Pro DI, and I'm wondering if anyone has heard how the two compare. The Pro DI is about half the price...

The JDI has a Jensen transformer, which accounts for the jump in price.

Haven't used the Pro DI, but I LURV my JDI.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my post...

I understand that the JDI has a Jensen transformer, I guess my question is, how "Jensen-like" is the transformer in the Pro DI?

I'm curious, if they 'fashioned' a transformer around a Jensen, how close did they get? There are some specs on this at the Radial website, but just wondering if anyone has heard both of these in action...

Thanks!

I haven't done the A/B test. Maybe I'll hit that up at work tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.

same here

BTW, there's schematics on the Jensen site for building a DI that's almost identical to the JDI.

Hummm....I have the Duplex ( Jensens stereo) and it sounds great! I 've not heard the "Pro" but taken in account the price difference, I'm assuming that the trannys would be different in sound. ( distortion) I talked to the guy at Jensen and he say they ( Jensen), sets out to make their trannys as transparent as possible! Good trannys are expensive..! That being said, there probably will be a degradation between the two. Not saying the "Pro" won't sound good, just depending on the quality you're after and what your ears allow you to hear!.... 8)

If you're getting a DI for recording purposes, you should just get the JDI. In the grand scheme of things it's not that expensive, it sounds great, and it will last forever.

I didn't get around to it at work. I'm back on Friday, I'll be sure to test them both for you.
