Chris Isaak guitar sound

Post by californiawizkids » Thu Mar 02, 2006 6:17 pm

I know I may be branded as an outcast for professing my enjoyment of Chris Isaak music, but hopefully I am not the only one out there.

Does anyone know how to recreate the nice warm guitar sound he has on alot of his songs. I am thinking specifically of "I Wonder" from Baja Sessions.

Just looking for generalities here (single coil, neck pickup, close micing, eq, whatever), not specific pieces of equipment.

Thanks.

That's a LOT of work to get tones. Whewwww.

Although I'm not a huge fan, I do like the stuff I've heard by them. And if I heard more, hey, maybe I could be a huge fan.

I was going to ask the EXACT same question a couple of weeks ago. Baja Sessions sounds so fantastic.

Surely there were Bigsby-equipped Gretsches.

wow. I guess I figured there had to be some studio brilliance going on in that tune, but I never thought it was so involved?especially with MIDI. It sounds a lot more like a Nine Inch Nails session than what you'd think for Chris Isaak. Learn something new every day....

It should be noted that Wicked Game is not from the Baja Sessions. If I had to guess from the sounds and the album title/concept I would venture Baja sesh was recorded au natural.

Baja Sessions is amazing! I like his other stuff too but Baja has such an amazing feel to it. Great players and perfect tones.

You are not the only fan.

That was a cool article. I certainly would have never figured him for a "MIDI" guy.

Glad to know I am not alone out there in my appreciation of good music :D

Hey, its great to see there are other 'Baja Sessions' enthusiasts out there. From the very first time I heard that cd, I always thought the songs were outstanding and the recording quality excellent.
