I'm a pedal junkie

Post by Justine_X » Fri Mar 03, 2006 1:26 pm

I don't even HAVE that many pedals! Probably 10. I don't want to want more... but I do! AARGH!!

I'm a sucker especially for the ~$200 boutique ones. Obscure different flavors of fuzz are my usual obsessions: "That would sound cool on a solo." Etc. Or finding the perfect pedal that will fill a "gap" (octave, flange): "I need that one to complete my collection."

I spend too much free time surfing sites like pedalgeek.com, or trying to locate clones of antique fuzzes.

I have a bookmark category dedicated to pedal wants... I revisit it often.

I wish I could go back to the simple guitar->cable->amp days, especially since many of my favorite records feature a consistent guitar tone... But I can't, I feel I have passed the point of no return.

Don't feel guilty. Enjoy it! :D

Remember, your vice could be $1000/channel preamps or Harleys or illegal pharmaceuticals.

My fiancee told me one time (after her brother bought a Harley because her other brother bought a Harley): "You can buy all the vacuum tube boxes you want." Verbatim!

Yeah, enjoy it! Embrace it!

Here, try this link, this'll make you feel better. Listen to the sound byte for The Experience pedal (if you haven't already).

Feel better now?

Okay, fuzzheads: What was that orange thingus that Jeff Baxter used on "Reelin' in the Years" - not a pedal, but a gizmo that plugs right into the guitar? I used to see those advertised in the Elderly catalog about ten years ago. Anyone?

There used to be a whole load of little boxes that plugged right into the guitar, most of them crap. I'm sure the Orange Squeezer (not crap) is the one Baxter used, but lots of my friends had little fuzz boxes and such. Haven't seen 'em since about 1985.

Man, the pedal bug has bitten me lately, too - same thing with the fuzz pedals, and my latest thing is convincing myself how badly I need a really nice tremelo pedal. This, only a week after convincing myself that I couldn't go on with life without a really cool boost pedal.

i'm in this, too.

i just ordered my phase shifter wet dream a few weeks ago.

does everything except the envelope-following PolyPhase trick.

building your own pedals can open up some possibilites, as well (and potentially save a few bucks).

This is the purdiest Orange Squeezer clone I've found.

I've been wanting one of these. Many opportunities for bizarre tremelo permutations. http://www.4mspedals.com/tremulus.html

Don't even get me started!

Oh, man.

I ordered one a year ago and then returned it a week later in a fit of financial guilt.

Funny thing is, since I had a fair amount of time playing around with it--demystifying it--now I wouldn't order it again. The definition of gear lust, perhaps?

Now I'm off to other octave pedal desires.

I always thought it would be kick ass to have one that the depth or rate could be controlled through a "wah-style" pedal.

Nobody is following your perfectly reasonable rules over at guitargeek.com

Eg Robert Smith (a randomly chosen example):

How can the signal possibly survive all those bypass circuits?

Ok, I'll take my tuner (if I have to) and my Bennet Music Labs boost-e-a.
Done!
