hello there,
One of my teachers was telling me that he had seen an ad in a past edition of tape op. about a modification that can be made to the 3630 compressor. I was wondering if anybody here knows which edition that article is in, or if anybody knows how to do this. thanks so much for your time.

I don't know if this is the mod that was talked about in tapeop but it does kick ass.

Maybe this is a little off the topic, but how much different is the black lion mod for say this: http://www.recording.org/e-mag/article_81.shtml ? It looks to be quite different. The black lion seems a little more extensive, but has anyone tried the other mod?

Btw, if you want to do the two-snip mod but keep the gate you can replace the gate threshold pot with a 10k audio pot with built-in switch. The shack has them, but you'll need to remove some material from the pot connections to get them to fit. I wrote an unfortunately long-winded post on how to do this a while back, if you're interested.

since i have a 3630 laying around as well.. i'm going to do a little giny-pigging for you guys. i'll record a vocal track and a guitar track with a certain setting on it (usually a setting that would sound good) and save the track. send it in and ave it modified (not too experienced with this stuff so i won't do it myself) and when i get it back record the same things with the same settings.
but not sure when i'll start on this. so give me some time.
