Transistor question
Can anyone help me with a replacement transistor for an Altec input preamp?
The original number is AL2712. According to one source, A means germanium and L means transistor, high frequency power. There are sever 2712 transistors available, I'm trying to find out what would be the proper replacement. The power supply voltage of these preamps is from 12-20 volts.
Thanks.

I thought AL was for aluminum/silicon. Could be wrong though.check the NTE cross reference. Just type in 2712 sometime prefixes will throw it off..is it a standard 3pin transistor? look like a tophat?
here is nte's link if you haven't tried already?

NTEs are OK but they are "generic" replacements, meaning close enough. I hope you can find the original NOS somwhere.janusmusic wrote:I thought AL was for aluminum/silicon. Since I posted this, I found the NTE cross reference. There is a low noise version that ends with 850. The original is the standard 3 legged transistor. The new replacements seem to all be flat IC style.
Thanks.

Here's a handy Altec Transistor Replacement guide if you haven't found it yet. Can be VERY handy.
