Why do people find the need to use the word "anal" in day to day conversation?

Well, it's not exactly state of the art.

The page you linked to says that studio is connected with the Education Technology department. I imagine it is mostly for voice-overs and dubbing sound effects and music onto interactive presentations. Judging from the looks of their "input racks" you could spend a few minutes and learn everything there is to know about operating them. Certainly not a deep education in recording.

As far as the university being a "give us all your money" school, I looked up the tuition and fees and they are in line with a decent state college. Certainly not the most expensive school, if that is what you want to know.

If you were posting this out of sarcasm, please excuse my earnest response.

I'm from near that area in PA. I have a bunch of friends who attended IUP. It's a party school - I was told they commonly had parties sponsored by Bud and Pabst.

And capable of 8 stereo outputs.

Do you think they mean 8 mono busses?
Or do you think maybe someone is actually thinking busses 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, L/R, and maybe the six auxes in three pairs to make 8 stereo outs?
I mean that is pretty high-tech, you could potentially feed 8 FM radio stations. :D

I don't know of their rep as a party school, but I seem to recall that IUP has a reasonably well-respected music school with over 300 music majors. Of course, this 'audio studio' is not part of that, it's part of their communications department and it doesn't look very impressive if you're interested in studying music recording.
Either way, it is a fairly good-sized, acredited, 14,000-student university, so no, I don't think it's the kind of 'gimme yo money' place you might be expecting.
