Recommend me a Mac for 002R rig

Post by Rodgre » Wed Apr 19, 2006 9:26 am

I'm looking for a new Mac for my remote/portable rig, away from the studio. I'm used to using a g4 tower with PT 6.4 and a 001 at work. I would like to upgrade from this at home at this point.

I'm looking at 2gHz Imacs right now. Is this a good way to go? I assume a reasonable laptop won't be powerful enough to do mixing, but an Imac should be equivalent and better than an older G4, no?

I'm looking at Apple refurbs. Any suggestions?

Hiya...

I had a powerbook g4 1.33 with a 1.5 gigs of ram...

I recently got the 1.9 gHz G5 and, with 1.5 gigs of ram, it's pretty astounding. I can't stump it, but then again, I don't use many plugs. Editing, bouncing, number crunching is so fast now...really nice.

I also wonder if the macbook pros are fast enough to finally replace desktops...seems like they might me.
