500 Series Mic Pres

Post by musikman316 » Wed Apr 19, 2006 10:10 am

Okay, so the list of manufacturers that make 500 Series Mic Pres is as follows (at least to my knowledge): API, BAE, OSA, Purple and now A Designs. Now to my question, is there someplace that you can pick up blank 500 series cards? I've been wanting to build some mic pres for myself and was thinking that that would be a good place to start.

Thanks,
Josh

try the kit mentioned here:

http://prodigy-pro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15064

a 500 module is a decent way to get started, because you don't have to build the enclosure or mess with the power supply. the kit includes everything you need except for an opamp, input and output transformers. i believe there is a page listing all of the opamps and transformers that are compatible with the card.

those forums are also a great place to pickup info about audio DIY.

good luck,

ed

I just received my pair of 500 series kits. I am still waiting for the input transformer that I ordered. Once it comes in I will just need to find the time to put it together. I sold off some gear so I could buy a single channel Shadow Hill's Mono Gama. I showed up late last week. I have a session coming up next weekend that I will test drive it on vocals. I can't wait!
