Post by squizo » Tue May 16, 2006 11:26 am

im embarking on racking these telefunken v672 modules that have been gathering dust in my closet for a year now.....but i need some recommendations on where everyone here gets their supplies for this sort of thing..

i.e.

pre punched rack cases

power supplies -24v 200mA (48v as well)

and any other things...

i guess, really, im just tallying popular opinion

A "pre punched" case would be the trickiest part. I use Par Metal for my basic rack boxes, and while they do offer custom punching, it can be a very sloooow process to deal with. So, I used a local metal shop to do odd things like large rectangles (I can handle round holes for XLRs, pots, switches, etc myself).

For power supplies, I used the "open frame" linear supplies from companies such as Power-One, International Power, etc, then install the modules in some sort of box...rack mounted, or a metal "shoe box".

thanks mr brianroth

I have seen the Par Metal site, so i'll take another gander.....unfortunatley i dont think i'll be putting in any cool VU's even though I have a pair....just trying to keep it simple...so no machining necessary hopefully.

Power Supplies are really the trickiest thing right now for me....which ones work well and which ones work Great!? I'll check out the 2 brands you suggested.

Being from Wichita/Lawrence...now living in Austin....its nice to know a sooner moderates these parts!

thanks again

OK, if the modules can be "buried" inside the rack chassis, then it's just a matter of holes for connectors, switches, etc. I do those in my little "machine shop" with a drill press and my Greenlee chassis punches for larger holes.

Here are links for the power supply modules I mentioned:

Condor is another brand that is commonly found, and there are other similar brands as well. ALL of the companies I mentioned make units that are *exactly* interchangeable for a given voltage/current rating. They all seem to be pretty much the same.

However, since everything is exposed, the modules MUST be enclosed in a metal box for safety. You also have to supply the power cord, fuse, etc.

The linear modules show up on Ebay, and from various surplus companies. New ones are sold by Mouser, Digikey, Allied, etc.

Good to hear from another guy here in my region!
