help with new powerbook

Post by hauser gabone » Sat May 27, 2006 2:02 pm

fellow tapeopers,
i just got a new (refurbed) powerbook g4 1.67 with 512 ram and its running slowly. it has 80 gigs. the OS occupies about 5 gigs, and i loaded 20 gigs of music...but somehow i only have 20 gigs of space left..now, i have plans to get an external but i need to figure out why ive lost so much space.
i would like to know if there are any programs that can tell me how my resources are being used and if anyone had any suggestions on how to make my PB run more efficiently. oh, i use digital performer too (i havent tracked with it yet though)
thanks
i'm sitting here in a moustache cause it needs to recharge

Maybe its iTunes making duplicates of your music. I often times will take a DVD of mp3s i've backed up and copy them to my Desktop in a hurry rather then importing via iTunes. Then when I add them to iTunes later it copies them a second time to ~/Music/iTunes Music if I forgot to turn off that option in the program preferences.

Check this cool utility out. It'll tell you what's going on on your HD:

Yeah, that screwed me for a while. Going through old CD-Rs..hmm, what's this? ..play it in itunes and get a dupe of something i never need to hear again, over and over again.
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away.
