Toto is my default example of a band that was ruined when MTV changed everything in the early '80s. They had some really cool songs but they were just too drab-looking to compete onscreen against people like Mcdonna and Boy George. Their songs, fortunately, live on in syndication (lite rock stations worldwide) so I'm sure the money keeps rolling in for them.

I dunno, actually, how much money they still pull in from airplay; I seem to recall hearing that BMI/ASCAP's tracking methods aren't adequate to extend to stuff like oldies radio.
