weird missing waveform problem in Pro Tools...

Post by the riff » Sun Jun 11, 2006 10:57 pm

I'm running pro tools 6.9.2 tdm and have recently run into a problem when recording.

Sometimes when I record the waveform is missing. The audio is definitely there on playback but doesn't show up on the screen unless I zoom in, then it suddenly appears. When I zoom back out, it's gone again.

Anyone ever run into this?

Just a guess, but maybe PT hasn't finished calculating the overview for the whole file yet, so when ou zoom in, it quickly displays just that secton? Not sure if that's how PT does it.
I think, if you check the Tasks window, and see that it's calculating file overviews, that this might be what's up. If so,it will catch up when the program is idle (unless you tell it in the prefs to not wait until it's idle to do so...

Just a hunch.

happened to me the other day. definitely not a waveform redraw issue...when i tried to create a fade on the region using the multi-tool, it shows the waveform, but only the section effected by the fade.

the audio was recorded in 6.9.X (i think .2, but it could be something else), and i was editing in 7.0 ...when i saved the session as a .ptf document, the problem went away.

I fixed it by going to the audio regions menu and selecting "recreate audio waveforms" or something like that. I'm not in front of my DAW right now. Fixed the problem.. It just seems weird that it's happening often...
