Interesting idea... a tad overpriced, and doesn't deal with front-of-mic issues, but interesting.

I seems cool but isn't it really expensive?

$400 list, about $300 street so far.

Sound on Sound liked it, FWIW. It's apparently a big heavy multilayered thing.

My voiceover client bought one for me in exchange for studio time. I've used it on one session, first for isolating scratch vocals during initial drum/bass tracking. Since my control room and tracking room are one in the same, it did surprisingly well. In some spots, if I soloed and compressed some drum tracks, it faintly got the vocals, but nothing you could hear when everything was going in the mix. And that was with the singer standing about 6 feet from the drum kit.

Then I used it for the actual tracking of the vocals in a somewhat untreated room where I used to get lots of vocal reflections off the walls. It works as advertised, but is heavy as hell. I only have cheaper onstage stands, so I bought a couple 10 pound weights and put them around the base of a tripod stand. It still bends the top extension of the mic stand a little when I have it extended out. Someday I will be able to afford some heavier mic stands. Until then the weights work.

The worst thing about it, in my opinion, is the logistics of getting a music stand into position around it where the singer or VO talent can actually see their lyrics or script.

I also read that these things are great for amp and drum mic'ing too. Have not tried that yet, but looking forward to it.

A number of reviews I've read say the RF works best with some type of sound absorbtion behind the singer ie for a low budget home studio situation, a bedspread or thick down comforter.
This is on my shortlist to purchase.

I have one and use it regularly for recording voice overs in my house. It works great for making a "dead" vocal sound. It will not keep out unwanted AC or computer fan noise. It was a bit tricky to setup at first, but has been rock solid and I can now set it up in a couple of minutes with my cheapo stands. i just have to balance it correctly with the mic offering some counter balance. it is hard to place a music stand next to it, but it was always hard with just a mic anyways. Placement in the room is crucial as well because the wall behind the talent will affect the sound. I definitely think it was worth $300 and has improved my recordings. I have also used it to record sax and trumpet, and have used it to deaden the rear of the TOMB ribbon.

I recommend it for home recordists who don't have a nice dead vocal booth.

Craig Anderton has a blurb on the Reflexion Filter currently on the on-line EQ Magazine front page. He likes it! :D
"If anything, sE underhypes the RF. Even in an acoustically-treated room, you can get additional isolation. Overall, this is a clever and useful accessory that earns major ?cool useful gizmo? props."

Best $299 I've spent so far this year! I'd like to get another one and try them on overhead mics.

Touch base with me when you decide to pick-up another one. I am becoming an sE Dealer currently.
ALSO! I spoke with Bob Reardon of sE/Sonic on Friday who shared that Don Was has tried and likes the Reflexion Filter as well as the sE Gemini dual-tube LDC.

I haven't tried one yet myself but i'm definitely interested. Gareth Jones has been using one for tracking vocals on the new Erasure album. There's some info and pics of it in action on his excellent blog:

The mic they're using with it is Andy Bell's own Neumann TLM 103, just in case anyone wondered...
