Maybe I can talk you out of it...I had one for about a little while, and I liked it well enough. The compressor is very useful, and that coupled with the ability to drive the input made it a really nice piece for DI bass. But...in my very limited experience, I don't find the 610 pre to be that jaw-dropping. It's colored, and the variable impedance is a nice option, but for that kind of money I'd be looking at something else - maybe a one channel Great River, for example. I'm just not blown away by the 610, that's all.

I was about to buy a LA-610 about a week ago. I did a comparison between the LA-610, Trident S20, Trident 4T, and Chameleon. I thought the LA-610 sounded the worst. The others were all on par I'd say. I already own the S20 and was looking for a compressor as well, so I went with the 4T. But the Chameleon sounded great too. The LA-610 had a very choked and fuzzy sound to it.

Keep in mind I was only checking male vocals through them.

love my 2-610 hard. makes drum tracks on my DAW sound like I'm listening to vinyl.

Probably not for everyone.
