Hi... I know a bit about acoustics. A great recording guitar for not much money is the Martin D16GT. Solid wood.... It is very similar to a D18, which is a very popular studio guitar.

You can get a Larrivee L-03 for around $600 used, and they sound really nice with just a room mic and a bottle of sauce. Close mic'd they're a little too boomy I think, but there's some great prjection that flatters the mids.

I love Larrivees, though. Especially the slope-y ones. They're kinda the J-45 of the blue collar set. Like, Pastis : Utica Club :: Gibson : Larrivee.
