Is that the Sansamp that I need to record killer bass sounds? I UTFSF but people seemed to be just mentioning Sansamp, and not the model.

That's the one that people seem to rave about the most. I like the RBI as well, 'cause it's rackmountable and it has a mid control, but some people think it doesn't sound as good as the pedal version.

Yeah, those things rule. I think some of the other Sansamp models are well regarded, but usually not for the intended application.

I run it with the parallel out to an amp, and record both. Very cool. I've found it kind of noisy on basses with active pickups though.

I agree, it isn't the only solution but can be a big help in a lot of situations. For the same price, a great mic could do as much good though... something to chew on...

FYI, Behringer makes something that's supposedly a copy of that. I think it's the BDI-something and you can pick it up for like $30 on ebay. I'm not a fan of Behringer stuff, but it's something to consider if you're on a budget.

Yes, for everything. Way more kick ass than a distressor.

That's what we used to record my bass player on our last record and he loved it. We got some good tones out of it - straightforward though nothing crazy. Definitely worth the money.

The BDDI is a slam dunk box. Great for bass and distorting just about anything.

FWIW i just recorded a bass player who had one of these this weekend. The tone was KILLER. I also mic'ed his cab with a sennheiser md421 II and the tone between the direct and the mic'ed signal were VERY close! the direct had a lot more thump while the mic got more detail. very great preamp though.

one thing i found is that you've got to worry about how much gain you're feeding it. when overloaded it sounds like trash. (which may be a good thing) the player i was recording was using a sadowsky preamp in his yamaha bass and it was just great.

You can here a sansamp bass driver DI on the song, "always, always". Fender jazz bass --> sansamp --> UA 610.

I love that pedal.

I loves me some Sansamp. It's also great live as a direct-box alternative, or bringing a crappy SS amp "to life."

yeah, I've been using this pedal for years and highly recommend it.

it was my "secret weapon" when i was using a solid state Acoustic bass head, but I actually kept using it when I bought a tube-SVT, just because I loved the extra tone it added.

for live and recording, you can't go wrong with this pedal.
