Have you had to replace a PRAM battery? I have an old G3 which won't boot up. I'm trying to load Debian onto it and it resists my advances. I don't want to waste dollar$ on a new battery if it might not help.

Sorry, off-topic.

of all of the software out there that offers video sync capabilities, DP is the last one that I'd consider cost prohibitive to purchase.

DP5 is only $329 for students

they're practically giving away G4s on ebay.
unless i'm really just behind the times (which i may be, seriously), that may save you quite a bit of cash.

ps. love the debate, keeps my thinking cap on.
love the infighting too, it makes me laugh.
obviously i don't have cable.

Off-topic or no, I'd try it. Batteries aren't that expensive...?!
Have you tried the command-shift-p-r (IIRC) startup keypress to zap the PRAM? That sometimes can get a dead Mac starting even with a dead battery. If that works, a new battery most likely will, too. If it doesn't, well, I don't know what that means.

I am lazy, which is why I hesitate to seek a battery, and also why I don't make cogent arguments when I infight with others here.

I tried that p-r startup, and ...

nothing.

I will seek a battery.

musicains make money from the sale of 0s and 1s, of course they have opinions about this stuff. If they don't, they need to get one.
If you know anything about jazz, you also know that musicians have a long history of being criminals as well as musicians.

Just a minor point, really, that adds nothing. Sorry.
I find adherence to fantasy troubling and unreasonable.
