STROBE TUNER

Post by kraigmason » Thu Aug 03, 2006 4:32 pm

I am considering buying the Peterson StroboStomp:

Does anyone have any experience with this tuner?

I have used a Peterson tuner from the late 1970's and it supplied the most precise tuning I have ever heard.
I am constantly recording with different guitars and basses and I feel like it is time to step up to the most accurate tuning I can get.
Does anyone have any other reccomendations for super-accurate tuners?

Thanks,

Kraig

I don't know about their tuners, but I sure like the Peterson Beer Bottle Organ...

Take a listen to that thing doing "Elenor Rigby"....
Want one bad.... :)

In a few words, yes, yes, yes.

This is one of my favorite boxes. The ability to use and save differing tempers is great too. Love this tuner and wouldn't sell it, unless I got enough to my another one and a nice bottle of wine, or a candy bar.

They are really nice folks, too.

I got one recently and really dig it a lot. It has a multitide of settings ("enhanced" tunings, Buzz Feiten settings, 12-string settings, bass guitar settings)) some of which account for tempered tunings. It's pretty spot-on and works great. Maybe a little difficult to scroll through the settings quickly, but it works well. A friend of mine who plays out A LOT got one and said that the little sockets around the in and out jacks on his broke. They are made of plastic and connected directly to the circuit board inside. That's kind of a bummer and seeems like a silly thing for a pedal that costs that much. But I imagine if you're careful with it, it should be okay. Functionally, I think it's pretty great.

I recently picked up a Strobe-o-stomp. I'm happy with mine. Much smaller foot print on the pedal board then I expected, plus with the Di out, I don't have to carry an extra DI for my acoustic. Reads fast. Well worth the dollars, and with them back in stock at retailers, can be had from Ebay for a lot less then new.

I wouldn't record without using my Peterson Virtual Strobe tuner

I've heard that one of them is on pretty much every studio guitar player's pedalboard these days. Those guys like to be in tune.

Of course, I could see it being a disaster on a gig after you've had a couple beers...

I can say from experience, the face of the strobe tuner is no more or less bewildering then the flashing lights of the chromatic tuner after drinking many, many beers and playing many hours.

I ordered the Strobostomp last Friday.
i paid $179 w/ shipping for a new one.
It came on Wednesday.
I used it Thursday night and Saturday morning.
It is awesome.
The only thing that's a little weird is I have to put a pickup in the acoustic to tune it (doesn't have a built in)...then i have to remove it very carefully so as to not agitate the strings too much.
it works great on electrics.
thanks for the input.
i am very pleased with the purchase.

Where'd you find one for $179?

I got it at MUSIC123.com.
They are asking $189 on the site.
I called them directly and asked for the best price they could give me.
They told me $179, and I said OK.
No tax either!

thanks,

kraig
