Adobe Audition 2.0 - limited to just ONE ASIO input device?

Post by skilback » Sat Aug 05, 2006 2:32 am

hi guys -

I'd like to use Adobe Audition 2.0 for multi-track recording, but at a colleague's office it's only allowing me to configure a single ASIO input device... but I want to use both a PreSonus Firepod for 8 inputs plus an M-Audio for another 2. I'll need 10 inputs to record my band.

Any thoughts? Does Audition 2.0 only allow a single input device?

I've also put in a request to Adobe support about this.

Thanks very much!

Well, Cool Edit didn't - I've been running 2 Layla boxes and it worked fine.

Course, now I'm rebuilding the system (reformat C: drive) and going to Audition so this is not what I want to hear....

Does anyone have any feedback on this, or have you successfully used >1 ASIO device with Audition 2.0? And if so, how?

I emailed Adobe and their reply was: please call us. No time to do so yet...

Thanks!

I don't think Cool Edit could use ASIO at all...

As far as I know this is a limitation of ASIO not Audition. Multiple ASIO devices cannot be used simultaneously unless the driver is specifically written to do this. For instance I beleive it's possible to run multiple M-Audio 1010's simultaneously, but multiple devices from multiple manufacturers is out of the question.

I recall seeing a third-party ASIO wrapper which aggregated devices. I remember making a sticky note to try it out, but I think it got buried and I cannot find it.

I believe Audition 2.0 will only let you use one ASIO device at a time. If I'm not mistaken you will find that this is the case with most ASIO hosts. According to Adobe's website, ASIO was a new feature in Audition 2.0 (which seems to be their latest version). From that, I'd confidently say that Audition 1.x and Cool Edit didn't support ASIO.

Your best bet is to look for an ASIO wrapper that can aggregate devices. I think I saw it in one of the rags once.
