I can't get PRO TOOLS 6.4 to launch on XP!!!

Post by bandit » Tue Aug 29, 2006 9:30 pm

I just got a digi 001 kit on ebay and when I try to start it and it gets to about 3/4 the way there and crashes. I've only used an old tape machine until now and have no background with computer recording. Any help would be great. I've got a P4 at 1.82 and 512 mb of RAM. I've tried shutting down the background programs and unplugging all the external devices.

What motherboard are you using? Is it compatible with the 001?

If you have SP2 installed you may have to download a driver from the digidesign website. I had that problem recently.

I'm not sure which mother board I have. I didn't really think that could be the problem. How can I find out? Just open it up and it should be printed there somewhere? Also not sure which service package I've got here. I think it's an older one considering the minimal system requirements printed on the box.

Your motherboard is very important, it needs a certain chipset to work properly with the 001.

Check here:

btw- I ran pre and post SP2 on my 001 and it worked fine.

when you say crashes, do you mean Blue Screen of Death, or something else? there are well known issues documented in the PTLE 6.4 archives on Digi's website. Two problems immediately come to mind-- some bad PACE (ilok) drivers (get the update) and also an issue with WinXP SP2 (you need to change a setting in the boot.ini). I could give you a link directly to it, but then it's much more gratifying if you find it yourself, right?
