Recording singer w/acoustic guitar at his house tomorrow...

Post by Theron D » Tue Sep 12, 2006 4:20 pm

Just got a call from a client that wants me to do a "live" recording in the living room of his house tomorrow, which has a wood floor and a good acoustic feel to it. It's a fairly large room. Not too reverberant, but guitars and vocals sound "open" and alive. I suggested it to him when visiting last week.....

I don't have 2 Figure 8's for taking advantage of isolating (nulls)(which was suggested in a similar post) (just a single Studio Project B3)...here is my equipment....

Digi 002r
Art Pro VLA
RNP/RNC
Studio Projects C4 matched pair (omni/cardoid)
Studio Pojects B3 (cardiod, fig 8, omni)
SM57, SM58, Blueberry, Beyer M160

The SM58 (through RNP/RNC) is perfect for his baritone voice, so I plan on staying with that...

What would you suggest for the rest of the setup? Thoughts, haters, all welcome...

I would go with the B3/C4 in MS about 3' away into the VLA for the guitar.

Hope the session goes well.
"I'd rather her sound artificial [auto tune] than sound completely drunk." As said by the producer during a long pitch shifting session.
