I want to use my SPDIF hole on my Digi002R for 2 more ins...

Post by Snarky » Thu Sep 14, 2006 1:36 am

Hey guys, I UTFSF, but all I could come up with was a MiniMe. I dont need the pre's, I have plenty of those, I just need like a two channel line in to a SPDIF A/D converter. Anybody doing this so the can track 18 simultaneous instead of the 16? (8 line/ 8 ADAT lightpipe). Do I have any clocking issues to worry about since the external clock comes from my TANGO 8 ch A/D ADAT converter doo-hickey? Anybody had those awesome super duper useless Digi002 preamps hot rodded by Black Lion? Please enlighten me. 18 is so much better than 16. That's backup scratch vox, man, or maybe an xtra room, or something sexy.

Thanks
B

EDIT: Is this possible to have two more MONO inputs or will the SPDIF protocol slam them together and not let me pan them out? I just need 2 BAL ins, Left and Right, and then when spdif shows up in LePTools, I can split it there, tracking hard left and hard right, like a console buss? Or am I insane, okay going to sleep now.

when on my Digi002 i used a RME Adi-2 for this...

two seperate ins indeed..18 channels total!
it did help..

clocked everything to the adi...sounded fine..
gives you 4 analog outputs
2 i sent to the board
2 i sent to the crap home stereo for checking mixes..

butt....around $700

if you only need the inputs..you might want to consider a mytek Stereo96 AD..
around $900...better clock better ad...you can use it as a Mixdown deck of sorts..

i know we're getting up in price but i really couldn't find anything cheaper than the RME..

who know's...they're might be something cheaper out by now..

I have been looking at the The Aphex 207D for a while. I have heard good things about the 207. I hope the converters in there are as nice.

And I'd slave the Tango 24 to whatever 2-ch AD SPDIF device you get via it's ADAT input port. The clock in it is likely to be as good or better than the clock in Tango 24; and most 2-channel AD's don't have a separate input for clocking.

Hey, thanks a lot dudes, I'll look in to all this stuff. But mang, in the neighborhood of $200 a channel is pricey on my budget, but if I can get some better hot clocking action, it's worth it.

There is alos the ART DPS II about $260 street price

and the ART DMPA at about $370 street.

I dont own any art stuff, but I have heard good stuff about the DPMA.
