Bucket Brigade Reverb

Post by Hackneyed » Fri Sep 15, 2006 10:10 am

I've seen it mentioned before, but I've never seen an example of this. Did they ever exist and what must they have sounded like?

(No, I'm not talking about delay.)

ive never heard of this.

when i think bucket brigade, the first thing that pops into my head is a bunch of firemen standing in a row with buckets.

"bucket brigade" is the term for a specific type of delay signal chain, yes.

bucket-brigade reverbs do exist; the Radio Shack reverb box was one, in fact.

Yeah, the Radio Shack is the only BBD I know of that was marketed as a reverb. Pretty much any BBD set very, very short with a decent amount of regeneration/feedback will give you the same effect. It doesn't sound at all realistic (no pun intended) at all but does sound like reverb in a very electronic way.

Cool, thanks. I think Arion SRV-1 is also a BBD reverb, but I'm 100% sure. Reverbs are one of those effects that are either expensive and good or digital and lacking.

DIY plate reverbs sound too short. I'll have to find a good spring reverb for dark vocals.

Roland/Boss had BBD reverbs as well in the late 70's early 80's.

Check out the Audio Damage Ratshack Reverb plugin.

It's pretty true to the original!

Costs the same too!

That actually sounds pretty cool...for my minimoog, maybe. But not an overall analog reverb.

I've been using my Evans analog echo (which is also a BBD device) as a reverb for my guitar amp recently :)
