build a clip for Sennheiser MD-441

Post by FrankD » Tue Sep 19, 2006 11:03 pm

Hi folks!

Hate those Sennheiser mounting clips that are always broken?

I made a few of my own design out of readily available materials.

Details are here:

Hope it helps someone...

Great idea. Now where's the DIY 421 clip? Get on that, wouldja?

For the 441 Sen sells a hard rubber mount, much like the standard Shure clips. The 421 still needs a better solution.

Yeah, but they want $35 for it, and $60-something for the clear plastic
one that disintegrates with age. That's what set my wheels in motion.

I agree about the 421, though they sell a pretty nice shockmount for
it for around $50, while the replacement metal stand clip is $32.

Strange pricing, huh? $35 for a black plastic clip and $50 for a nicely
made shock mount... :?

I do recall that they were absurdly expensive, but they work very well, and seem pretty close to indestructible. And $35 dollars to protect a $400 mic isn't bad, when compared to the cost of the shock mount for a TLM 103. I figure my time is worth a minimum of$10/hr. So the buy vs. make thing balances pretty well. Ymmv, and apparently has.

Obviously not stage-ready. My 441 came with the soft rubber wrap-around clip. It works great and doesn't look cheap-ass like this DIY POS.

Very cool. I'll keep this in mind if I ever break the clip on my 441.
