Deerhoof interview
Just a thank to y'all who interviewed Deerhoof. Those bits about Greg monitoring on unpowered computer speakers, and re-pitching a single piano note over and over, are just priceless. Their last record sounds just amazing, I can't believe it's all Pods. Great piece in every way.

The newest Tape Op issue.
I thought it was great too. I really got a kick out of them sync up 3 iMacs using Pro Tools free so they could record more than two tracks at a time. They would all hit the space bar at the same time! Priceless....

After seeing them for the first time last year as a 4 piece, I saw them again maybe 2 weeks ago at the Troubadour (w/ Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog (awesome)) and they rocked possibly even harder. When I saw them the first time, I asked the guitar player who stayed (John) where they recorded... and he said "at our practice spot" I was pretty amazed then.
After reading that article I felt rejuvenated by the total dedication to sound that they have displayed in their recordings.

Cheers tom and jrl, that's ace - but with respect, my guitars sound like utter fucking crap. Bass is not so bad sometimes - I can get that sounding a bit bigger. But fuck, the pod is insanely good at making 6 strings sound shite, imo. Having said that, james pinester gets cracking guitar sounds with them. But then, he does have a guitar that costs 50 times mine - so that's got to be part of it. I'll say this though, the guitars on runners 4 are absolutely fucking fantastic, they really are. I'm thinking of, say, Wrong Time Capsule. Those guitars rule. Weird how the bass is panned way over to the right on that one, btw. But yeah if these are line 6, what a fabulous advert. Fwiw I've pretty much ditched me pod now (for 6 strings anyway), and am mic-ing a jmp 2x12 - low vol with a shitty electret. Sounds loads better to me (shit like harpoon brochure angel brains etc eg).
