thank you everyone
thank you everyone
I'm in the middle of cutting an album for a friends band - I don't do this often - and find myself so f'n steeped in tips, tricks and general good practices I've learned from so many of you here that I just felt compelled to say thank you. My approach to mic selection & placement, to EQ, to purchasing and utilizing outboard gear in fresh and exciting ways, after 20 years of doing this part-time, I have a whole new perspective and passion for recording. The band is freaking out that I don't do this for a living and I'm feeling like a f'n rock star. Thank you TapeOp community. You guys have been an inspiration and a reliable source of solid common sense advice for years and it has brought some sonic joy to my life and has refreshed not only my faith in my fellow enthusiast, but in the recording community at large. It's been a good week.
Did I mention I only had one operating ear during basic tracking? Ha ha... I still pulled it off!

I must say I'm feeling the love as well. In 1999 after doing this full time for almost 2 decades, I had to get a day gig. I've never stopped recording but I missed the comraderie and ongoing technical debates from belonging to a stable of house engineers and freelancers. This board really helps fill that void... thanks...

I've got enough vigor, but seem to be always in short supply if vim...
...but seriously, this place is pretty cool. Always something new to think about or try.
