Which Firewire card?

I was useing a presonus firebox on my laptop the other day and had some problems with clicking and poppong and audio dropping out. I've heard that a firewire card with a TI chipset is what I should get. Would this cure some of my problems?

Probably, but it could be a lot of things. What OS?

windows XP. I have had alot of problems with this computer and I know it is wishful thinking that something like a firewire card can make a drastic change in proformance.

Are you hitting the CPU too hard? Are you short on RAM? Do you have any'scheduled tasks' (access via Control Panel) running amok while you work? Is there anything bloated like Norton GoBack running in the background?

I had a ton of problems due to a crappy firewire card. My RME Fireface just wouldn't run properly.
As soon as I changed the card to a Ti chipset, everything was fine.
