.oh, no one's mentioned the blockfish yet, that's a great freeware plug. that thing on opto with the 'complex' button in and the low cut on....on room mics it is insanity.
Cool, I've got that plug but I haven't used it on much yet. Can't wait now!

just set it up like i wrote above and pile on the compression. and then just mess with the release...anyway the 'complex' button is the key, it does some kinda 'supernice' thing, yunno it makes it a couple compressors in a row...really changes the way it releases...blabla...

I just got this, and this is literally the first time I've gotten to test it but here's the results of a recent drum slam with a Valley People Dyna-Mite (1U rack mount edition):

(note title)

I used the Stapes about 10' away and 10' apart from the kick drum. The stapes are the only things going through the compressor. There is a kick mic too, I think it was an Oktava MK319, but you don't notice it too much.

"I learned it from watching you!"

haha.. sorry, just couldn't resist.

but, to stay on topic, in response to Jason, slam anything... That's the fun of it all anyway! Experiments. There's so much out there, I'd try anything twice. :D
off somewhere listening.
