What were the standard live mics before shure took over the world?

when you see the old footage from bands in europe, you'll see a ton of sennheiser 421s, often the white or grey ones. also, some akg dynamics.

in the us, it looks like electrovoice really was the live mic standard before shure.

Before the Shure SM58/57, there was (in the U.S.) ...

Shure. 55, Unisphere, Unidyne, 330, 333, 300, 315.

Also Electrovoice. 664.

And don't forget the RCA 77, 44, and 74, all widely used in live performance.

Before the mid-sixties, singers did not usually remove the mic from the stand.

And yes, the Sennheiser 421 has always been a great vocal mic wherever and whenever.
