Wiring a Breakout Box, Any Tricks?

Post by sethl » Mon Nov 27, 2006 8:56 am

As the subject line may indicate, I'm wiring up a breakout box at the end of a snake (8 inputs, 2 headphone returns). The process seems pretty straightforward, but are there any tips or tricks about the actual wiring I should know? For instance, someone suggested that ganging up the headphone returns was probably okay if I'm using high-impedance headphones (and I lack two dedicated headphone outs from my A/D converter. Any other incredibly obvious things I'll feel silly about if I find out about them after I've done the work?

Thanks much!

Possible grounding issues when using a metal box and 1/4" jacks. You might want to make a dedicated ground to your ground buss and use iso washers. Just a thought...

This paticular article talk about the input of a piece of gear.....but the same holds true for your jackfield in a breakout box.
