Both mics are EXCeLLENT, in my opinion, with the PR40 being the one with more low end.

EVERYone should have both!

I compare the PR40 with the SM7, and RE20, though I like it better for an all around mic than the RE20. It almost sounds like a condensor!

Lots of folks use the less expensive PR20 for cabs too. It's more of an 'updated', better sounding SM57.

I have the PR 40. Haven't used it on guitars yet, but I like it for voices and drums a lot. How else is everyone using them?

I wrote one of the reviews in the new TO...I am still loving it for vocals. You can get up really close and it sounds extremely full and rich.

Generally speaking, the PR30 has been used more in this application (Tool, James Gang, Converge, Linkin Park, Queens of the Stone Age among others).

But it depends on the tone of the guitar amp and how you want it to sit in the mix. The 30 has "something" in the mids that seems to work well for guitar-- present but not too harsh. The 40 goes down lower, but also seems a little brighter to many ears.

I really do think the PR30 is for me then.

My band runs through an old Traynor Bassmaster cranked, along with an Ampeg V4 and right now I just use an SM57 and it almost always turns out with a harsh high end sound and very little low end detail, muddy.

Thought I'd pick up on an old thread....

Anyone notice that guitar tones from the PR30 feel a little thin and/or harsh. I've noticed lately that mine doesn't seem to stand alone very well. I've been liking my RE20 and my AT4033 better on guitar amps lately. Maybe just wrong match last couple times, but its been disappointing lately.

Anyone find this to be true?
